Sonia S Shah

Dr Sonia Shah is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Cancer Biology, UniSA. Sonia has over 15 years’ experience in molecular and cellular biology and understanding of the fundamental process of programmed cell death during development and in disease. Her current research interests include understanding the mechanisms and functions of cell death and ubiquitination using cellular and mouse models. Her work with caspase-2 identified premature ageing associated with loss of caspase-2 and the discovery that caspase-2 deficiency promotes genomic instability and increased susceptibility to tumorigenesis. More recently she was involved in characterising how the ubiquitin ligase NEDD4L is involved in maintaining kidney homeostasis and how its loss promotes cell death. Her work has resulted in several articles in high impact factor journals and has been recognised with awards and research grants.
